Each student will get to pick from various pre-cleaned and pre-laser cut gourds with multiple designs to make their thunder gourd. We will paint and color the gourds with leather dye, paint markers, and other paints. Then we will varnish and paint the inside as well. Once that is completed, we will attach the synthetic drumhead and heat shrink it to get it tight like a great-sounding drum! The last thing we do is attach a spring to the drumhead. When the spring is shaken, the drumhead picks up the vibrations of the spring and amplifies the sound inside the gourd, creating an incredible thunder sound, hence; the Thunder Gourd! This class is an excellent introduction to gourds as all supplies will be provided, and I guarantee you’ll enjoy the class.
